From 15 to 23 November 2025, teachers from the I High School – Anna Iwaniuk, Monika Ślusarczyk, Lilla Winiarska-Mancini, and Renata Nawierska – took part in a job-shadowing visit at a Portuguese secondary school in Porto. The mobility was funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, coordinated by Gabriela Olea Martin.
The purpose of the visit was to explore the organisation of a Portuguese secondary school, observe teaching methods, and learn about the educational solutions used in various subject areas. The participants observed numerous lessons, attended meetings with the school management and teachers, and analysed the use of digital tools in the teaching and learning process.
Activities during the mobility:
- observing lessons in English, geography, biology, economics, mathematics, chemistry, physics and physical education,
- exchanging experiences with teachers from various EU countries (Slovakia, Romania, Spain and Portugal),
- attending a lecture by the school’s vice-principal on the European Qualifications Framework, as well as a lecture by Dr Alice Barbosa, a school psychologist, on the role of the school psychologist and strategies for addressing school absenteeism and adolescent challenges.
What they learned:
- methods of working in a diverse student environment in terms of race, nationality and social background,
- how Portuguese schools address challenging student behaviour, absenteeism, and issues arising from cultural, social and ethnic differences,
- approaches to implementing bilingual education in classes with varying levels of English and Portuguese proficiency.
